I- Micro Nano Indenter:
This Nano-indenter manufactured by Nano Mechanics, INC is a capable wide range of tests including, but not limited to frequency specific experiments, storage and loss modulus, modulus and hardness (Oliver and Pharr) and constant strain rate. It can perform mechanical properties characterization by CSM technique. It has multiple electromagnetic actuators for testing any material from ultra-soft gels to hard coatings and offers a maximum force of 1N, resolution of 6 nN and ultra-low noise floors of less < 200 nN. It also has the unique tip-calibration system integrated into the software that allows for fast, accurate and automated tip calibration. The machine can scratch option featuring a maximum normal load of 50 mN, the maximum scratch distance of 2.5mm and a maximum scratch speed of 500 µm/s.



Nano Indenter G-200:
The Nano Indenter G200 is compatible with the standard XP indentation head provides three-dimensional quantitative analysis and the most accurate, flexible, user-friendly instrument for Nano mechanical testing with different environment heated from room temperature to as high as 350ºC. It is capable of high load up to 10N, allowing the complete mechanical characterization of metals, ceramics, bulk metals, and composites. It can perform dynamics properties characterization via continues stiffness measurement (CSM) by indent depth and drift compensation.

Micro Vickers hardness tester:
The microhardness tester MMT-X series, MATSUZAWA  has a color LCD touch panel with an LED light source.  The Vickers hardness test method requires a pyramidal diamond with a square base having an angle of 136° between the opposite faces. Upon completion of indentation, the two diagonals will be measured and the average value will be considered. The loads for Micro Vickers hardness testing methods are typically very low, ranging from a few grams to 2 kgf. The Maximum applied load is 10 kgf.

Kammrath-Weiss 5KN Miniature Tensile/Compression Test Instrument:
This (kammrath-Weiss) tensile module for the SEM fits on the sample stage just like an oversize specimen. The test specimen should be 20 to 60 mm long, not thicker than 5 mm and the deformations speed range: 0.1 to 20 µm/sec. The module is equipped with a linear encoder displacement gauge. This gauge covers the total displacement range up to 45mm, with a resolution of 100nm. The tensile lead screws of the load frame are threaded with right and left pitches at their opposite ends. So the area in the middle from where the specimen elongates in both directions will stand almost perfectly still. It has also heating facilities from room temperature up to 800° C with  PID controller.

Helios NanoLab 650 Dual Beam:
The FEI Helios NanoLab Dual Beam microscope combines a monochromated field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) with an advanced focused ion beam (FIB) column for fast, precise nanomachining and nanoscale structural characterization. The system is equipped with an EDAX, Pt deposition source, high resolution: sub-nanometer from 1 kV to 30 kV,  triple in-lens electron detectors with through Lens (TLD, secondary and backscatter mode). It has the capability to produce ultra-thin samples for S/TEM, integrated beam current measurement to allow faster ion beam calibrations, and real-time monitoring of the milling and deposition process.



SEM Mill Model 1060:
The Model 1060 SEM Mill from Fischione is an excellent tool for creating the sample surface characteristics needed for SEM imaging and analysis. It has a vacuum load lock for extremely rapid sample exchange. Once the sample is placed onto the stage, evacuation of the load lock occurs within a few seconds. Before milling, an automatic height sensing system provides feedback to a mechanical elevator so that the sample's top surface is properly aligned with respect to the ion beams. Tilt angles are continuously adjustable in the range from 0° to 10°. In addition to full sample rotation, the programmable rocking angle control is ideally suited for preparing cross-section samples.



Heavy Duty Rolling Press with Variable Speed:
MSK-5070-AC is a 180 mm width ( 7.1 ") heavy-duty electric rolling press with 7.5 horsepower and variable speed, which is designed for rolling metallic material ( < Rc 50) up to 20 mm thickness, such as copper, stainless steel, Nickel alloy, etc.



Durston Power Mill-DRM Combo 130 Double Sided:
The 130mm series Durston benchtop power mills feature a powerful 1.5 hp (1.1kw) 110-volt motor matched to a high precision epi-cyclic variable speed gearbox that provides the highest efficiency possible in a space-saving vertical motor mount design. Both components are built for production shop use. The power mill includes the new safety features of the emergency stop button, safety bars at front and rear and guards covering the extension rollers at the end of the mill.

ROBO 3D R1+ 3D Printer:
The R1 +Plus prints object up to 10 x 9 x 8" from a variety of materials, including both PLA and ABS plastics. Its versatility lies in its ability to be used with almost any open-source software, a flexible range of materials, a variety of resolution settings, and most current operating systems. The build platform is made of borosilicate glass to withstand the extremes of heating and cooling that occur during printing. An 8.4 x 8.4" area in the center of the build platform is heated, which keeps the bottom of the 3D print warm while the top is being printed - this helps distribute heat more evenly throughout the print, which in turn prevents the base from warping. This is helpful for printing with PLA, but essential for printing with ABS. The build plate is also magnetic and removable.




Inverted Metallurgical Microscope:
The inverted metallurgical microscope system provides superb optics, built-in polarization capabilities, color filters and up to 100X objective magnification with a USB digital image camera. It offers 5.0 M pixel resolution and five infinitive Plan Achromatic objectives included (4X, 10X, 20X, 40X, 100X) .

Digital multistage programmable furnace:
The digital multistage programmable furnace has a three-stage digital programmable controller that includes the adjustable rate of temperature climb, nine multistep programs, a hold temperature function, and a delay start option that can delay the start of a new program up to seven days. It has a maximum temperature of 1100° C or 2012° F. it is made with a heavy gauge steel cabinet with a durable baked enamel coating.



Iso Met 4000 Precision Cutter:

The IsoMet 4000 is an Automatic precision saw was perform for cutting various material with minimal deformation.  It is capable of 2-micron precision-cut alignment manually and precise accuracy. Its built-in recirculating coolant system and the cutting capacity up to 2.75 in (70 mm) diameter, max rectangle sample 150 x 50 x 13 mm with 8in (203mm) blade.

Low-speed precision saw:
A low-speed precision saw that’s perfect for smaller, more delicate samples that can’t tolerate the heat of higher speed cutting. Cutting fluid is drawn by the blade from the reservoir to cool down the sample. The pivoting cutting arm has adjustable weights whether to apply extra weight or to counterbalance any downward force exerted on the sample. The blade has a range from 3” to 6” so it allows samples up to 2” thick.

The manual EcoMet™ 4 Polisher and Grinder has adjustable platen rotation speed from 50- 500 rpm compatible with 8in [203mm] and 10in [254mm] platens.

Ultrasonic cleaner:
An ultrasonic cleaner designed for a variety of applications. It is powerful enough to remove heavy oils, buffing compounds, and proteins.it is consistent enough to manage tough lab cleaning but also safe enough for delicate materials or fine jewelry. The way it works is by sending ultrasonic sound waves through a cleaning solution which causes an effect called cavitation, which is the process of rapid forming and collapsing of microscopic bubbles.

Electroplating:
A power supply and timer (left). An electroplating stirrer(right) with closed-loop stirring control monitors and regulates stirring speed from 60 to 1150 rpm for semi-solid, viscous, or aqueous solutions. It has a strong, large magnet that improves stir bar coupling and ramp-up speed adjustments and when combined, they minimize decoupling. It has a 2 piece casting design that deflects any spills away from the electronic components and includes a built-in mount for an optional support rod. It has specifications of 0.4 Watts and 73 Amps.



Pepetools 8" Bench Shear:
The premium quality bench shear from Pepe features 8" tempered carbon steel blades that can be reversed to increase their cutting life. This shear tool easily cuts mild steel (or other softer metal) sheet stock up to 1.6 mm thick and round stock up to 2.6 mm diameter. The angle-cutting blade can cut 90° mild steel (or other softer metal) extrusions up to 0.5 mm thick and round stock up to 2.6 mm diameter.

Thermolyne Cimarec 2 Hotplate:

Thermolyne Hotplate device is a general-purpose heating and stirring for laboratory procedures requiring temperatures from 150°C to 538°C and stirring capability from 100 to 1000 rpm. The gross weight of items placed on top of the hotplate should not exceed 25 lbs (11.4 kg).

Precision Balance ME503TE:
The Mettler-Toledo ME54TE analytical balance has a capacity of 150 gram and a readability of 0.1 milligrams with a pan size of 90 millimeters (3.5") diameter, external adjustments  with large 4.5" color TFT touchscreen features an intuitive user interface, clear icons, and large digits, making it easy to use. 


Portable Precision Balances SPX1202:

The portable precision balances p rovide consistently accurate measurements with max capacity 1,200 g and a readability of 0.01 grams with a stainless steel pan size of 5.5 in x 6.7 in.

Focused Ion Beam/Scanning Electron Microscope:

FEI Quanta 3D Field-Emission Electron (FEG) Dual-beam is available through UNM’s Earth and Planetary Science department on a recharge basis. This instrument is used to take high-resolution FEG-SEM images in different modes which can be used to study uncoated samples under controlled vacuum conditions. The system is furnished with an ESEM column equipped with a tungsten filament for imaging from low to high vacuum levels analysis and mapping of large samples up to 12 inches in diameter. In addition, the instrument also is equipped with an EDAX Genesis EDS system with an Apollo 40 SSD detector for X-ray microanalysis, a TSL EBSD system for electron crystallography, and Pt and W deposition source.


Transmission Electron Microscopes:
JEOL 2010 200kV high-resolution transmission electron microscopes (TEM) with a variety of capabilities are available through UNM’s Earth and Planetary Science department on an appointment basis. This instrument has atypical scanning capability including energy-filtered imaging (EFTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), X-ray microanalysis and X-ray mapping at the sub-nm level, and bright- and dark-field STEM imaging, as well as traditional TEM techniques such as electron diffraction and high-resolution imaging.
Lobo Led Loop

Lobo loop was designed to study the long-term corrosion and erosion effects of molten lead (Pb) on structural materials at temperatures up to 700°C. Lobo loop supports corrosion, erosion, instrumentation, radioisotope retention and thermal-hydraulic studies in liquid Pb for lead cooled fast reactor (LFR), accelerator systems, and spallation target designs.

Pb velocity in the 34 mm pipe section is up to 1 m/s while in the specimen holder cans the velocity can reach more than 3 m/s depending on the number of specimen holder cans stacked.

While the loop is made out of an FeCrAl based ODS alloy MA956, melt and secondary melt tanks are made out of SS316 and APMT respectively. The secondary melt tank is designed to perform stagnant testing at comparable temperatures as the loop.
